3 Types of Banana Fertilizer you can Make at Home for Better Flowering

Do Banana Peels Make A Good Fertilizer?

Banana peel fertilizer is easy to make and will help you to add more potassium to your garden.

Your plants use potassium to move water and nutrients between their cells. It will help to strengthen the stems of your plants and protect them from multiple diseases. It gets needed for the flowering of your plants, and potassium can also improve the quality of the fruit your plants will produce.

Banana peels contain up to 42% potassium. They are one of the highest organic potassium sources that you'll be able to find. Banana peels also have phosphorus, magnesium, iron, calcium, and copper contained within them.

Potassium also helps your plants to be more resistant to drought conditions.

Since many banana-growing methods use large amounts of pesticides, it is probably best to look for organic banana peels.

Not only can you make fertilizer with banana peels they can also get added to your composting pile.

They do not contain much nitrogen. But are an excellent source for plants like tomatoes, peppers, and flowers.

I would be hesitant about using banana peel fertilizer on indoor plants. Many people have found that it seems to attract fungus gnats.

If you notice gnats are getting attracted to your soil, it's essential to limit the moisture in your soil. Adding something like Diatomaceous Earth to the top of your soil can help you eliminate the fungus gnats over time.

While making banana peel fertilizer is easy, I did not find it was beneficial to my plants. Instead of making a banana peel fertilizer, I will stick to keeping them in my compost pile.

Ways to use banana peels as fertilizer

There are several ways you can use banana peels to provide nutrients to your garden. The easiest way is for you to lay the banana peels on top of the soil about 2 to 3 inches from the plant's stem.

Adding them to your compost pile is also a great way to increase the potassium content. Allowing the peels to sit in water for a few weeks will help you make an excellent liquid fertilizer you can pour onto your plants.

The final method is to use a blender to create a granular powder from the peels. You would then mix this powder into your soil.

How long does banana peel fertilizer last

When banana peels get used as fertilizer for your plant, it can take up to two years for them to get completely broken down into the soil.

Using a blender to grind your banana peels will help them to decompose in your soil quicker.

Liquid banana peel fertilizer will provide some water-soluble nutrients to your plants immediately. But the nutritional contents contained within it are minimal.
